Learning and Growing with Cheerleading Programs

With such a terrible obesity problem in our country in both children and adults, many parents want to give their kids a headstart on fitness habits that last a lifetime. The natural choice for many concerned parents is recreational and team-oriented athletics programs like our children's cheerleading classes in Murrieta, and San Jacinto.

What parents may not realize, however, is that sports and activities like cheer, tumbling, gymnastics and dance are more than a physical workout, but a mental one as well!

For young children especially, these activities teach teamwork, confidence, coordination, focus, coping, organization, and a myriad of social skills.

Great, so why not head down to the nearest recreation center and sign them up for a sport?

Many communities don't offer a wide variety of choices for sports and activities. While bigger urban centers and higher popular areas like the Greater Los Angeles area, San Diego, Riverside County, Orange County, and the Inland Empire usually offer many activities like cheerleading at So-Cal Cheer Cheerleading Programs smaller or rural parents may be out of luck.

What are some age appropriate activities that parents can suggest to their children?

Ages 2 to 3
Young children develop and master motor skills but are probably too young for more organized forms of excercise. Here are some suggestions:

  • Walking and Running
  • Swingsets / Playground Sets
  • Tumbling
  • Water play (Under parent supervision of course)
  • Toddler cheerleading or gymnastics programs (they are unfortunately too young for SoCal Cheer classes!)

Ages 4 to 6

  • Dance
  • Physical Children's games like tag
  • Jump rope
  • Catch
  • Riding a tricycle

After this age, and often within this age group kids are able to move onto team sports and activities:

Ages 7 to 10

  • Sports
  • Cheerleading (May we recommend So-Cal Cheer Kids Cheer Classes in Southern California)
  • Gymnastics
  • Swimming
  • Dance
  • Soccer
  • Bike Riding
When it comes to these more organized activities make sure that you child truly wants to participate. You should never force a child to join a sport/activity!
